2-Step Verification

2-Step Verification offers a second layer of protection and helps prevent someone from accessing your account using a stolen or compromised password. You can change the way you receive verifications at any time in your Security Settings in Profile.

There are 2 ways to verify your identity with 2-Step Verification:
1. A 6-digit verification code is sent to your enrolled phone number through either a text message or automated voice call.

2. A notification is sent through the Ameriprise Financial app that you accept on your enrolled device.

What are notifications?

Notifications are for Ameriprise clients who have the Ameriprise Financial app installed on an Apple or Android device (phone or tablet). You can receive notifications to verify your identity with 2-Step Verification at login as well as notifications for certain Working with My Advisor or Account Management alerts.

Are there specific requirements for receiving notifications through the Ameriprise Financial app?

There are a few requirements for receiving verification notifications on your device:

  • A device (tablet or phone) that has mobile data or is Wi-Fi enabled
  • The latest version of the Ameriprise Financial app downloaded to your device
  • A successful login to the Ameriprise Financial app on your device
How do I log into my account with 2-Step Verification notifications sent through the Ameriprise Financial app?

Once your device is enrolled, each time you enter your User ID and password at login, a notification will be sent to your device through the Ameriprise Financial app to verify your identity. 

What do I do if my device is lost or stolen?

If your device is lost or stolen, when you log in you can use your account number or Client ID for 2-Step Verification. You can also call Customer Service to gain access to your account or permanently block a device from receiving notifications.

Where is the notification on my device?

Login notifications can be found in your device Notification Center (Apple) or the drop-down notification bar (Android). Notifications are active for 5 minutes and you will need to resend the notification to log in if the notification is not accepted within that time.

How do I change how I receive verifications or enroll a new device in 2-Step Verification?

You can receive login verifications either through a 6-digit code sent through a text message or voice call, or a notification sent through the Ameriprise Financial app on your device.

You can change the way you receive verifications at any time in your Security Settings in Profile.

To enroll a new device in 2-Step Verification:
1. From Security Settings in your Profile, select Turn Off 2-Step Verification
2. Download and log in to the Ameriprise Financial app on your new device
3. Select Turn On App Verification to enroll a new device.

How do I turn off or manage my 2-Step Verification settings?

You can manage your 2-Step Verification enrollment and preferences in your Security Settings in Profile. In addition to turning 2-Step Verification on or off, you can change the way you receive verifications. You can have a 6-digit code either sent to your enrolled phone number or sent through notifications on the Ameriprise Financial app on your enrolled device.
